What is a WhatsApp link?
A WhatsApp link (also called a wa.me link or click-to-chat link) opens a chat with your number when someone taps it. You can add a ready message, so the customer only has to press send.
Where to use your WhatsApp link
- Instagram and Facebook bio — the easiest way for followers to message you.
- Google Business Profile — add it as your website link or in posts.
- Website — a WhatsApp button converts well in India, where most customers prefer chat to forms.
- Emails, SMS and visiting cards — one tap instead of saving a number.
- Print and outdoor — use the WhatsApp QR code generator so people can scan instead of typing.
How to make a WhatsApp link by hand
The format is https://wa.me/ followed by your full number with country code — no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading zero. For an Indian number 98765 43210 that's https://wa.me/919876543210. To add a message, put ?text= and the message (with spaces encoded) at the end. The tool above does this for you.
Tips that get more replies
- Keep the ready message short and natural, like something a customer would type.
- Use a different message for each place you share the link, so you know which one works.
- Reply fast. People expect answers on WhatsApp within minutes, not hours.
- Getting lots of chats? The WhatsApp Business API lets a whole team reply from one number, with automatic replies after hours.
